If you’ve been satisfied with the results you’ve achieved through the website we built for you, one great way to say “Thanks!” is to do so in the form of a Yelp review. Why not take a few minutes to write one  now?

When it comes to tweets (twitter posts) and status updates (FB posts)… less is more. Too many posts could be considered spam, and that is the last thing you want.
Quality is key.
You can follow/friend request as many people you want, but your actual posts should be limited to only things your followers/friends would find useful, interesting, or relevant.
For example, if you find a great article online and want to share the link, this is a great twitter post idea. When you launch a new video on the website and/or youTube, your tweet should be in the form of a thank you to the person for saying such nice things.
What about buzz?
I would suggest skipping the gimmicks mentioning buzzworthy terms like swine flu, etc. It may send a short term spike in traffic, but in the long run, it will hurt more than it helps (unless you are telling people that you are the only chiropractor in town that DOESN’T have swine flu! Then, it’s relevant AND necessary info that will build business.)
Here is an excellent list of guidelines that I found for more info: http://www.rollingout.com/v2/ro_today/082109/facebook_and_twitter_promote_business.php
Relationships Rule
The bottom line is this: It’s STILL all about relationships between people. Twitter and Facebook are merely ways that make it easier to extend your personal relationships to your online network.

Here’s Inc.com’s list of 6 Ways to Be a Better CEO

  1. Delegate More
  2. Become a Better Judge of People
  3. Communicate Well With Your Board
  4. Get Better at Picking Winning Ideas
  5. Develop a Sense of Humor
  6. Just Be More Patient

Wow, Inc., groundbreaking stuff here.

Well, the purpose of this post wasn’t really to criticize, but rather to illustrate that it’s not really what you do, but who you are that makes you successful. Something I’ve been realizing from reading several blogs, books, articles and web sites about business leadership is that everything that is being taught comes straight from the Bible. If we just focus on being who we were made to be, we’ll achieve whatever success we can handle. It’s that simple.

Try 1 or more of the following:

  1. You need to have a blue birdie twitter button on your blog that says “follow me” (search google images for follow.png)
  2. Follow more people, a certain % think it’s “good manners” to follow those who follow you.
  3. Become more interesting and/or famous and people will think it’s cool to follow you.
  4. Get totally plugged in to twitter – use it all the time, if you can stand to try to find some purpose for it ;)

10 New Year Resolutions to Boost your Business [Work Smarter -] read more…

This article is actually from last year,  but I found it was just as insightful this year.

One New Year’s practice I’ve recently begun, and am encouraging others to do as well is this:

Change your passwords.

Everyone, except for me, it seems, has the day off, so why not change those passwords you’ve been reusing for the past 8 years and effectively do your part to button down security.

Happy New Year!

So, you’ve decided to start your own web design business, huh? First of all, congratulations!  Secondly, get ready to work hard, because nothing in life will succeed unless you’re willing to work hard for it.

When I first started WorldLight Media,  I remember working harder than I’ve ever worked at any other job I’d had.  Longer hours every day, six or seven days a week; I literally ate, slept, and breathed web design. But there was something different that kept me going day after day, month after month: Passion. I actually LOVED what I was doing, and therefore I could work for hours on end without wearing down.

After two years of going at it full time, not much has changed in terms of how hard I work. Only now am I getting the revelation of “working smarter, not harder”. I used to think that was a license to be lazy in exchange for knowledge. Now I know that I can never be lazy, because it only leads to failure. However, I am working smarter, so that my hard work doesn’t just add increases to the value of my company, it MULTIPLIES exponentially, so that my hard work pays off with greater and greater returns.

There’s one resource that I can recommend that can be truly beneficial: Tailored Podcast – Brendon Sinclairs Business Mix

I’ve started listening to these podcasts several times a week, and each one changes the way I do business. I first heard of Brendon Sinclair by reading articles on Sitepoint.com, which incidentally is another invaluable resource for any level of web designer.
